Disease Prevention
Trees can get sick just like any other living thing, and just like any other living thing sickness can be caused by the presence of another living organism or by certain environmental conditions. Pathogens are pests such as bacteria or fungal organisms that cause symptoms in their host and abiotic disorders are diseases caused by non-living factors such as nutrient deficiency. Whether your tree is host to a pathogen or suffering due to some element of its surroundings, we are able to help identify plant problems and recommend appropriate treatments. A soil test or limb sample can give us specific information when we are unable to identify what is causing a certain condition, but many of the plant problems in our area are recognizable without conducting such tests. Needle Cast, Bur Oak Blight, Apple Scab and Chlorosis are all examples of tree diseases that are easily recognizable in North Iowa. Needle Cast, BOB and Apple Scab are caused by fungus and Chlorosis is our most common abiotic disorder. We have a variety of fungicides from bio-based soil injections to chemical applications using trunk injection that have been proven to be effective against our most aggressive tree pests. For Chlorotic trees, we have nutrient programs and soil amendments that will greatly increase your tree's ability to make use of iron and manganese to keep your trees healthier for years to come.
